Wood has been a staple material in interior design for centuries and it is known for its timeless appeal, but it’s also because it comes in so many different varieties. From the rich mahogany to the subtle ash, wood contributes to transform an ordinary interior into a luxurious space.

Wood is a material that has nearly endless possibilities when it comes to its applications. One of the things we truly love about wood is its natural properties:

  • STRONG AND DURABLE: making it ideal for long-lasting use in interior design.
  • UNIQUE TEXTURES that come with different types of wood. From ash to oak, mahogany to pine, every type of wood has its unique soul, texture, and appearance which make it a standout material in any decor.
  • SUSTAINABILITY: Wood is a natural material, and by obtaining it from responsibly managed, certified forests, it contributes to sustainable forest management and a perfect eco-friendly choice.

The combination of wood’s delicate and warm appearance with these other strengths has made it a popular material for modern interior design. For each design project, we look for making a unique statement with texture, warmth, and sustainability, wood is often an ideal choice.

As a designer, I draw inspiration from a myriad of sources, from nature to architecture to fashion. However, one of my favorite sources of design inspiration is undoubtedly wood. Beyond its inherent beauty and warmth, the texture of wood is incredibly versatile, allowing it to be adapted in countless ways to create a unique aesthetic. Whether using clean, geometric shapes or more organic, fluid silhouettes, incorporating wood into a design scheme can add a tactile quality that is unmatched by other materials. Best of all, by playing with different profiles and colors, the possibilities for creating visually interesting and impactful designs are endless.

Designing a warm and cozy living room or kitchen incorporating wood elements really takes the space to the next level. The natural colors of wood add a layer of texture and warmth to any space, especially when paired with a charcoal color scheme.

To create a truly enveloping interior, we never use more than two different wood tones in the space. The pale tone is often reserved for the flooring and a mid-tone for furniture pieces. Paired with a dark grey wall color, the natural colors of wood bring a distinct and layered look and create a timeless and inviting interior.
